In this episode of Cseking In, Nikki Csek sat down with Shannon Christensen who discusses her experience as a mother which led to the creation of the first charity that began on social media to become a nationally registered organization.
Christensen's love of helping others stemmed from her psychology degree and early career treating young violent offenders.
Growing up, her mother often spoke about manifestation, with great emphasis on “believe it before you have it”.
“All I did was work and be a mom to my kids and not have a sense of connection,” says Christensen..”
As a younger mother, Christensen felt unsupported and strived to create a legacy to help other mothers who also felt the same way.
Mamas for Mamas is a poverty relief agency with a strong emphasis on community. Christensen aims to break down the competitiveness among mothers and enhance kindness.
Christensen explains how she's been “exposed to every experience of motherhood imaginable,” but still feels privileged in the work she does.
Now, Mamas for Mamas has 62 digital branches and five physical locations. Christensen has goals to continue her legacy – which she grew from Facebook – to become a social enterprise and have 0% overhead agency by 2028.
