There’s surely a celebration going on inside the walls of the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group’s Kelowna office at the corner of Lakeshore and Cook.
Behind the always dominant CBC Radio, Power 104 and Beach Radio snagged the number two and three spots in Kelowna’s fall 2018 radio ratings.
Other than CBC, which saw a 16.5% share of the market, Power and Beach were the only two stations to earn a double digit share percentage at 12.3% and 13.2% respectively.
For those who won’t know, share percentage is the estimated total hours tuned into a certain station within the central market area.
Beach's rise towards the top was almost unprecedented, as the relatively new station only had a 3.4% share of the market a year ago.
Both New Country 100.7 and Okanagan Oldies 103.9 came close to that 10% share percentage mark, falling just short at 9.9% and 9.8% respectively, rounding out the top five.
Other stations in the market include EZ Rock 101.5 (7.6%), K96.3 (6.9%), 99.9 Sun FM (5.8%) and AM1150 (5%).
New Country and EZ Rock saw the biggest dips in ratings over the last year, as both fell more than 5% in share percentage.
These ratings, however, are split into many different demographics which allow stations to target different advertisers.
When it comes to the most important commercial demographic, adults between the age of 25 and 54, Power 104, Beach Radio and New Country 100.7 stood above the rest.
Power earned a 20.3% share, Beach came in at 15.6% and New Country wasn’t far behind at 15%, while no other station was over 8.4%.
