The Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin died Thursday at the age of 76.

As news of her passing spread, numerous musicians, both her contemporaries as well as younger talents who were directly inspired by her, took to social media to pay tribute.

The NASA Twitter account even took a minute to post about Franklin and Asteroid 249516 Aretha, which was named in her honor.

Paul McCartney, Christina Aguilera, Diana Ross, Elton John, John Legend, Chance the Rapper, Missy Elliott and Ariana Grande all honored the singing legend.

Franklin’s publicist confirmed to the Associated Press that the singer passed away at 9:50 a.m. EDT on Thursday at her home in Detroit.

That statement revealed that her official cause of death was advanced pancreatic cancer of the neuroendocrine type.

“In one of the darkest moments of our lives, we are not able to find the appropriate words to express the pain in our heart,” read a statement from the family. “We have lost the matriarch and rock of our family.”
