A local musical is off to a roaring start and has no sight of slowing down.

Elf the musical opened this past Thursday and received a standing ovation from the crowd after the show.

“The pressure was on to take this iconic film and bring it and all of its many elements to the stage to please Elf super fans,” said director Bonnie Gratz.

“I am so happy that people love the show and some have even said they like it better than the original movie.”

The Broadway-style musical collaborated with jazz musician Neville Bowman and choreographer Larissa Campbell to deliver five dance numbers.

Stephen Keppler, a local radio personality, stars as Buddy the Elf alongside his wife, Jaclyn Keppler, who plays Jovie.

“We are so pleased to have the community get behind this show which is about the importance of embracing joy and accepting family for who they are even if they are an elf,” adds Gratz.

The musical runs until Dec. 6 at the Rotary Centre for the Arts and the production is currently sold out, but a few tickets will be made available on Monday.
