Jahseh Onfroy, known better by his rap name XXXTentacion, was gunned down in broad daylight on Monday.

The 20-year-old was leaving a Florida business shortly before 4 p.m. when he was approached by a pair of armed men.

The Broward County Sheriff’s Office reports that at least one of the two suspects fired a gun and struck the rapper before fleeing in a dark-coloured SUV.

Onfroy was quickly transported to Broward Health North where he was pronounced dead.

XXXTentacion became one of the most popular young rappers in the world after being discovered on Soundcloud five years ago.

This two studio albums, 17 (2017) and ? (2018), were quite successful on charts all over the world.

However, he also was quite controversial and faced his share of legal issues, including false imprisonment and aggravated battery of Geneva Ayala, who was pregnant at the time.

After that incident occurred in 2016, another video surfaced of Onfroy hitting a woman back in 2013.

He was also involved in an armed robbery in July 2016 for which he only received probation after posting bail of $10,000.

The troubled rapper had his fair share of feuds with fellow rappers and musicians, many of which led to physical altercations, but there was also a lot of respect for his music.

Kanye West, J. Cole and other big name rappers chimed in with tributes on Twitter, calling him an inspiration and noting his “strong desire to be a better person.”
