During his long career, which started in 1939, Lee pioneered a long list of comic book characters in the Marvel Universe including Thor, Black Panther, Iron Man and Spiderman.

While he was able to work alongside big names such as Chris Pratt and Scarlett Johansson, Lee was often the star of his movies as fans anxiously awaited his cameos.

Even though Lee made headlines several times this year for health issues including vision issues and pneumonia, his death has come as a shock to many.
