News to note

Jack White brought his adorable mother on stage at his Boarding House Blues tour kick-off show in Detroit on Thursday. Teresa Gillis (White’s mother) sang backing vocals as well as danced with him during his performance of The White Stripes song “Hotel Yorba”.

On Thursday it was announced that Prince’s original studio recording of “Nothing Compared 2 U” would be available to fans for the first time. A montage of unreleased rehearsal footage of the late superstar was also dropped. Prince passed away two years ago this year as of April 21.

Newly Released

Stoner Metal band, Sleep, released their first album since 2003 this past Friday. Titled The Sciences, the album is heavy and sluggish in all the best ways, just as one would hope from the San Jose trio.

Taylor Swift has fans feeling nostalgic as the pop star has recently lent her talents to country group Sugarland. You can hear Swift's dreamy vocals on their newest track, "Babe".

Local Spotlight

This week we want to shine the spotlight on local performer, Syren + and the Waves. The soul-pop singer-songwriter stays true to her name with stunning vocals that could enchant any person who comes across her music.

More Info!

Calming and dreamy, her simple melodies are a treat to the ears at any time. The growth in her musical library is vast in the short four years she has been performing in the area, going from just vocal looping to adding in hints of guitar and synth.

Syren + the Waves are set to play Record City in Vernon on May 25, 2018. Follow along with her via social media at @syrenandthewaves on Instagram or Facebook. You can listen to more of her music on Bandcamp.

Reccomendation

Climax by Beastmilk

Genre: Rock

A friend of mine showed me this album a few weeks ago and I’ve listened to it non-stop since! Thrashy and loud but still calm and easy to listen to, Climax is a great one to jam to while you’re working or just hanging out at home.

Fun Fact: The Finnish group now operates under the name Grave Pleasures

It’s been a busy week for music buffs. If there was something exciting you know about but wasn't mentioned, let me know! Send an email with all your musical ideas to savannah@kelownanow.com.
