Get ready food and philanthropy lovers, because Kelowna’s only food-themed run is gearing up to return for the fifth year!

The annual Hungry Hungry Half Marathon will once again conquer the Apple Bowl bright and early on Saturday, May 30 and registration is now open.

Hosted in support of the Central Okanagan Food Bank, the annual fun run aims to keep the shelves of the vital community resource stocked year-round — a cause race coordinator Sarah Carson feels strongly about.

“Kelowna is wonderful about helping out the food bank over the Christmas season, but people don’t often think about them during the spring and summer, and unfortunately we have just as many (if not more) people who utilize the food bank then,” said Carson.

Since 2016  participants have been able to raise over $36,000 for the cause, and you can be a part of growing that incredible total whether or not you’re a seasoned runner.

In addition to having a strong charitable aspect, the run also strives to be inclusive for any and every individual who may want to participate, regardless of age or athletic ability.

“This event is unique because it isn’t based on winning, or how fast you can do it,” said Carson.

“We want to see everyone out, just to have a good time. It doesn’t matter if you run or walk, we are often people’s first “race” and we are very proud of that!”

Participants can join in on the fun at their own pace whether it be by doing the full half marathon or the 10-kilometre and 5-kilometre route. There is even a mini 1km walk/run for children.

“All of our routes can be done by walking or running and both wheelchairs and strollers are welcome. We really do want to see as many people out there as possible.”

Returning participants can expect a bit of change this year, as the run’s route has been refreshed for the 2020 event. However, the great positivity and food-inspired costumes are guaranteed to stay the same!

Registration is now open online with stellar early-bird pricing available until Feb. 29. The 1 km Kids route is $10, the 5 km is $25, the 10 km is $40, and the half marathon is $60.
