Kenny Tai has been photographing food and posting his delicious findings to his Instagram account, @HeyHangryHippo, for many years now. With so much food knowledge, we’ve asked him to share his favourite places around town to inspire you to get out and try something new.

With current provincial health orders prohibiting indoor dining, restaurants have adjusted their operations focusing on outdoor patio dining, take out, and delivery. Please note: people should only be outdoor dining at restaurants with their household or core bubble and restaurants only accommodate tables of six or less.

Central Kelowna & Lake Country

It’s a large area to cover, but Kenny was up to the task. He narrowed down his favourites to five including Dosa Crepe Café in Rutland, Garden Bistro at Peak Cellars in Lake Country, Bin 4 Burger Lounge just off of Hwy 97, Kaya Sushi & Grill by UBCO, and QB Gelato & Café in the Landmark District.

Lower Mission & Pandosy

If you’re looking for patios and a wide variety of food options, this is the area of town for you! It’s hard to choose just a few places, but Kenny has made the case for Broken Anchor, the restaurant at Codfathers Seafood Market, Diner Deluxe for memorable brunch, Lakeside Dining at Eldorado Resort for great views and food, Rich Tea for traditional Chinese treats, and T-One for Asian fusion not to be missed.

West Kelowna

There’s a lot to add to your list in West Kelowna, everything from upscale winery restaurants to casual pizza take out. Check out Kenny’s recommendations including 19 Okanagan Grill & Bar that includes amazing golf course views, the new restaurant at Mt. Boucherie Winery, The Modest Butcher, Pizzamoreh for classic and unique pizza options, Bamboo Chopsticks for traditional Vietnamese dishes, and Kojo Sushi for amazing ramen.
