"Our donairs are da bomb," says Meghal Patel.

"And our pizzas are as good as it gets, too."

Patel is using such superlatives because the Buster's Pizza & Donair franchise she owns has just opened in Kelowna's Landmark District at the corner of Highway 97 and Sutherland Avenue.

"Buster's combines the best of both worlds by selling both pizzas and donairs," she said.

"And, if you can't decide between a pizza and a donair you can order the donair pizza."

It's called the Donair-A-Saurs, a pizza topped with donair meat, onions and your choice of sweet garlic or tzatziki (the sauces traditionally used in donairs) or barbecue or pizza sauce.

Patel knows there's lots of pizza places out there, but there are few restaurants making donairs.

That's why the Buster's concept of offering both in the same location makes it a hit.

Everybody knows what a pizza is and Buster's makes 20 different versions (or you can create your own) in four sizes (small, medium, large and extra-large) on traditional or gluten-free/cauliflower crust.

Donair is a bit more of a specialty, originating in the Middle East.

Buster's proprietary donair is ground beef marinated in 28 secret spices and slow-cooked on a vertical spit, or gyro machine.

When you order your donair, meat is shaved off the spit and flash grilled before being assembled and wrapped in a warm pita along with your choice of lettuce, tomato, onion and a sauce of either sweet garlic or tzatziki.

That's not all, Buster's also does poutine, chicken wings and strips, pasta, fries and appetizers like mac n' cheese bites, garlic cheesesticks, pickle spears, mozza sticks and jalapeno poppers.

Buster's uses the catchphrase 'Caution: Highly Addictive' for all its food.

Buster's started in Edmonton in 2001 and quickly spread to become 40-plus franchises in Alberta and Saskatchewan before coming to BC with the first location in the province in 2020 at 3610 Carrington Rd. in West Kelowna.

That West Kelowna franchise is owned by Meghal's husband, Parth Patel.

Meghal is also planning to open another Buster's in Lake Country in May.

In between the West Kelowna and Kelowna locations opening, a Buster's in Prince George also started.

More BC franchises are expected to pop up as Buster's catches on more and more in the province.
