(UPDATE: April 28 @ 11:30 am) - More food trucks have popped up at cardlocks and other spots along BC highways to provide a place for truckers to stop and eat.
It was an initiative started at the beginning of April by Munden Trucking and the BC Trucking Association and the movement has seen plenty of food trucks step up to the plate across the province.
It became Meals For Truck Drivers BC and there are now six featured locations, although you can keep posted to the Facebook group for the latest updates.

- Kamloops: Cookshack Cravings food truck - Every week from Wednesday until Sunday at the Chevron Cardlock on Versatile Drive off Hwy 1.
- Kelowna: Surf Side California food truck - Set up weekdays at the Chevron Cardlock on Hwy 97 and Edwards Road.
- West Kelowna: TNT Dynamite Gourmet Food Truck - Set up at the Kal Tire on Industrial Road in West Kelowna (Fridays-Sundays)
- West Kelowna: Wicked Peach Food Co. - Also set up at the Kal Tire on Industrial Road in West Kelowna (Mondays-Thursdays)
- West Kelowna: George's Magic Grill - Set up at Barry Beecroft Fuel Distributors Ltd. (hours unknown)
- Chilliwack: Dutchilicious food truck - Weekdays from 7 am until 5 pm @ the Chevron Cardlock off Hwy 1 at the Lickman Road exit.
The BC Government has now stepped in as well and has put food trucks in four spots across the province's highway network to give truckers a spot to stop and eat.
A release from the provincial government said that food truck operating times will vary at these locations and more spots are expected to be identified and added in the coming weeks.

- Nordel CVSE Inspection Station in Delta
- Zopkios Brake Check on Highway 5, approximately 57 kilometres north of Hope
- Britton Creek Rest Area on Highway 5, approximately 62 kilometres south of Merritt
- Kamloops Weigh Scale in City of Kamloops - food served free of cost once per week by the Salvation Army
(Original story: April 6 @ 1:30 pm) - Last week, we told you that Munden Trucking was teaming up with the BC Trucking Association to station food trucks at various locations along Hwy 1.
It was a much-needed initiative to keep our hard-working truck drivers properly fed during the COVID-19 pandemic, since almost every restaurant or fast-food chain has closed its doors to the public.
To make things even better, Ocean Trailer, a company out of Delta, has contributed a $5,000 sponsorship which will allow these trailers to offer up some free meals as well.
Over the weekend, those efforts began in Kamloops, Chilliwack and Christina Lake and more options will be popping up in Kelowna, Prince George and possible Abbotsford this week.
Here’s a list of where and when these trucks will set up, with exact hours provided if we have them available:
- Kamloops: Cookshack Cravings food truck - Every week from Wednesday until Sunday @ the Chevron Cardlock on Versatile Drive off Hwy 1.
- Kelowna: Surf Side California food truck - Beginning on Wednesday, April 8 @ the Chevron Cardlock on Hwy 97 and Edwards Road.
- Chilliwack: Dutchilicious food truck - Weekdays from 7 am until 5 pm @ the Chevron Cardlock off Hwy 1 at the Lickman Road exit.
- Prince George: Smokey J's food truck - Wednesday, April 8 from 11 am until 7 pm, then the same hours on Friday if the demand is there, at the Chevron Cardlock off Hwy 97 on Great Street.
- Christina Lake: It’s not a food truck, but Lisa’s Lakehouse has closed to the public and turned into a large truck stop with take out only, with a walk up window, easy access and overnight parking available.
We’re still waiting on more information on what will be put in place in Abbotsford.
