When many restaurants were understandably scrambling to provide takeout and delivery service during the COVID-19 pandemic, Central Kitchen & Bar took a different route.

Jared Lee and Devon Murray, owners of the popular downtown Kelowna spot, decided it was a good time to double down on their renovation plans.

The expansion was already planned pre-COVID, but they figured it was the perfect time to make it happen and hopefully have a grand reopening when things returned to normal.

Now, things are slowly starting to get back to a new normal and thanks to their hard work over the past two-three months, a new-look Central is almost ready to welcome back visitors.

“We’ve built a structure with eight-foot high windows around our patio to give us more seating, including 63 new seats that will now be available year-round,” Lee explained to KelownaNow back in April.

“There will also be an additional 35 seat seasonal patio running curbside along Ellis Street, it’s a very large expansion.”

This isn't a temporary expansion thanks to the province's expanded patio program either, this is permanent.

On Monday, Central shared photos of the nearly-completed renovation, saying their new bar is “almost ready to pump out some cocktails” and they “are over the moon excited!”

The finishing touches will be made throughout the week and they’re hoping that they can welcome the community back into their space by the weekend.
