Beer and pizza.
Need we say more?
Well, yes, I guess we do so you know where to go to slurp this cold beer and devour this hot pizza.
It's tomorrow night's Rutland Pizza Party that's also the launch event for the Uptown Rutland Business Association's new branded beer -- URBABRU.
URBABRU is the long, smushed-together acronym for the Uptown Rutland Business Association and the BRU slang for brew.
"When I went to the BIABC (Business Improvement Areas of BC) conference in the spring in Coquitlam the gift bags included a branded beer done by five local brew pubs for Austin Heights BIA (in Coquitlam)," said Karen Beaubier, executive director of the Uptown Rutland Business Association.
"I thought it was a great idea so I went to Rutland's own Freddy's Brew Pub and they were all over it. We decided on a light and easy-peasy drinking lager. It's amazing."
To start with, 1,000 cans of URBABRU have been made with yet another Rutland tie in.
The colourful label is one of the murals Uptown Rutland is famous for -- an abstract green-and-pink piece called 'Contact Wave' by Dylan Ranney that covers one exterior wall of OK Tire at the corner of Gray and Dougall roads.
The beer will be served up at tomorrow's Uptown Rutland After Hours social and networking mixer that's doubling as the Rutland Pizza Party.
It's 5-7 pm at the Interior Savings Credit Union branch at 185 Rutland Rd. South.
Tickets are $10 at OurRutland.ca or $10 cash at the door.
Four pizza places will be serving up slices so you vote for fan favourite, best topping and best crust.
Two of the competitors are national chains Panago and Canadian 2 for 1 Pizza, along with two Rutland independents -- Teg's Pizza House and Good Brothers Pizza.
Uptown Rutland will continue to serve URBABU at its events in the future as well.
Freddy's Brew Pub is expected to start selling it as well in its restaurant and bowling alley at McCurdy Bowling.
The Kelowna Chiefs, of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League, are also selling URBABRU at all the home games it plays at Rutland Arena.
Beaubier expects the beer to be a hit, so there's likely to be more made and getting beer coasters printed up is a natural next step.
