Get Local is the newest series presented by KelownaNow, featuring some of our favourite local businesses and eateries! Get Local is our way of spotlighting local places we love and hope you will, too.

One of the best parts about living in the Okanagan is the beautiful scenery, the outdoor living lifestyle, the mountains and lakes, and of course the wineries.

With such an abundance of wineries in the Okanagan, it's important to offer a unique experience or incredible view in order to stand out and attract both tourists and locals.

A local winery on the west side has made plans to do just that, and more.

Mt. Boucherie Estate Winery first established its vineyards in 1968, creating some of the first plantings in the British Columbia wine industry. Today, it remains one of the largest estate grown wine producers in B.C. with over 200 acres in both the Okanagan and the Similkameen Valleys.

They are most known for their 2014 Summit blend and 2017 Gewurztraminer, which are both gold medal winners from the All Canadian Wine Awards.

Two years ago, the business was purchased with the vision to take the experience at Mt. Boucherie to the next level by having a team with decades of experience in the B.C. food and wine industry step in and make some major changes.

When it comes to a collaboration of amazing food and wine, we will never complain.

What can we look forward to? A brand new wine experience centre overlooking the lake, with a relaxed atmosphere perfect for indulging in the food and wine provided.

Guests can expect to walk into an open-concept tasting room where you can decide to partake in a casual tasting or a private, sommelier-guided experience.

Do you tend to get hungry when tasting? No problem. There will be a dining lounge operated by John and Ana Mooney from Six Degrees Bistro up at Big White, or the opportunity to purchase a picnic to eat outside on the grounds.

Looking to stay in the area overnight? The new centre will also include a luxury bed and breakfast for guests who are looking to spend more time in the region, and to take their time when experiencing all the centre and the Okanagan has to offer.

The whole idea is about every guest enjoying the new space at their own pace and budget.

With this space, and the ability to host larger groups, Mt. Boucherie hopes to provide an event space to bring the community of Lakeview Heights together as much as possible.

The renovations are set to be complete by September of 2019, but wine lovers can still enjoy the tasting room at Mt. Boucherie all year round leading up to the big opening!

Fun Fact: Mt. Boucherie Estate Winery grows 15 different types of grapes!

Location: 829 Douglas Rd, West Kelowna
