Just one week after a Kamloops school was shut down because of threats, one more school has been closed as a precaution.

According to the RCMP Westsyde Secondary School was closed around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22nd. On April 15th Summit Elementary School was on lockdown following a threatening phone call to the school.

RCMP confirms that shortly after 2:00 p.m. a threat was phoned in to Westsyde School and referred to weapons and bombs. Officers attended the scene, cordoned off the area, and made entry to the school to ensure there was no threat to the students and staff inside the building.

The police are calling the threat a prank and have referred to them as “Swatting” calls, as heavy police presence was called in to investigate. The school has been deemed safe and the students dismissed for the rest of the day.

The investigation into the origin of the call is ongoing at this time and no suspects have been identified by police.
