Ashcroft RCMP is looking to the public for help into an investigation involving a four-year-old boy who was injured at a weekend soccer tournament.

According to police, on Sunday, a woman reported to an off-duty officer that she saw a four-year-old being assaulted by several children on Saturday.

The woman allegedly yelled at the kids to stop which caused them to scatter. The victim was taken to the hospital where he was treated for serious injuries.

"Given the soccer tournament had participants from all over the surrounding area, we strongly believe there may be witnesses who live outside the town of Ashcroft," said Detachment Commander, Kathleen Fitzgerald. "We are working hard to identify the children involved but we need public assistance to do that. We are working backwards, the incident occurred on Saturday and was not reported to us until the following day. There may be people who came into town on Saturday but not on Sunday and are unaware that we are looking to speak to them."

The assault is alleged to have occurred on Saturday at the Ashcroft HUB Park. If you were a witness, you are asked to contact Ashcroft RCMP at (250)453-2216.
