(UPDATE: June 12, 12:45 p.m.) - Following a shooting that took place yesterday afternoon near the intersection of McGill Road and Summit Drive, police have now learned that there is one victim.
At the time of the shooting, no injuries were known to police, however police have now learned that a 56-year-old Kamloops resident was shot several times during the incident. The victim required surgery but is expected to survive.
The victim was accompanied by a younger individual, who was unharmed, reports Kamloops RCMP.
The Kamloops RCMP says that both the victim and the younger individual are associated with the Kamloops drug trade.
Police now believe that the shooting may be connected to another incident that occurred at a Salish Road residence earlier the same day.
Tk'emlups RCMP attended the Salish Road residence at about 10:55 a.m. after a report of an altercation involving the discharge of a firearm which broke through a window. There were no injuries, but the suspect(s) involved were believed to be departing from the incident in a black truck.
Kamloops RCMP believe the black truck could be the Cadillac Escalade involved in the McGill Road and Summit Drive shooting, which was found abandoned in the Pemberton Terrace area of Kamloops. Although the two shootings are not confirmed to be connected, given the similarity in suspect vehicles involved, the public's assistance is being sought for both cases.

The vehicle had a license plate not registered to the truck and RCMP reports that the truck had been stolen from Vernon on May 19th, 2018.
There is reason to believe that the suspect or suspects involved in this shooting have had this vehicle in the Kamloops area since late May, says Kamloops RCMP.
"For this reason, we are releasing a picture of the truck and asking that anyone with information about who is known to have possession of this vehicle contact the police" explained Sargeant Simon Pillay.
"The violence that we see occurs in cycles. We may experience periods of relative calm followed by several violent incidents," said Sgt. Pillay.
"Fortunately, injuries to innocent bystanders are a rare occurrence but gun use by criminals is treated very seriously by the RCMP and will be investigated thoroughly as a priority case. Although this investigation is at its early stages, we are confident that neither shooting were random but rather targeted shootings related to drug trafficking."
Kamloops RCMP are urging citizens with any information about either incident to contact RCMP at (250) 828-3000. If you wish to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
(UPDATE: 4:10 p.m.) - Kamloops RCMP has located both vehicles involved in an ongoing investigation into the shooting near the intersection of McGill Road and Summit Drive.
No suspects are in custody.
