Today, just after 8:30 am, Kamloops RCMP discovered the body of an individual who was swept away in the Thompson River on July 30.
Frontline officers and Kamloops Fire and Rescue Service were called to Aviation Way for a report of someone caught in logs near the float plane docks.
Officers confirmed the man to be deceased on the scene, and have since contacted the BC Coroners Service.
The identity of the victim was released earlier this week in a GoFundMe created to help support his grieving family.
Dr. Michael Mthandazo is known as a well-respected family physician from Vernon, who went to Kamloops to play in a recreational soccer tournament on the weekend of July 30.
Mthandazo was swimming with his son in the river when the current became too strong, he was able to bring his son safely to shore before being swept away himself.
Not only has the news been hard on the community, but has been extremely difficult for his wife, Julia whom he would have been celebrating his 11th wedding anniversary today.
The Vernon doctor was the sole source of income for the family, and the fundraiser was launched to help support them during this painful time.
Julia described Michael as happy-go-lucky, kind-hearted, always with a smile on his face and someone she knew she could always count on.
The family asks for privacy at this time, and thanks everyone for their support and kind words of encouragement.
