A Kamloops resident is $500,000 richer after winning big.

Garrett Niessen is extra happy these days, which is no surprise. Shortly after moving to Kamloops, Niessen matched four out of four numbers to win the Extra prize from the Aug. 30 Daily Grand draw. The perfect match has him claiming a total of $500,000.

“I logged into my PlayNow account and noticed a few extra zeros on the top right hand corner. I started counting them and realized I actually won the lottery,” Niessen said. “I called my wife over and we both screamed instantly. To say we were excited is an understatement.”

Niessen relocated to Kamloops with his wife a few months ago to be closer to family, he says.

“We’ve been settling in, spending time getting to know the community, getting organized in our new home and buying a new vehicle to get around town,” he said.

In fact, Niessen purchased a new car the day before his big win.

“Our friend at the dealership had a great laugh with us when we went to hand him the cheque for the full amount," he adds.

The Extra win will also provide Niessen some extra cushion for comfort during his retirement.

“I was fortunate enough to retire a year ago,” he said.  “I’m a simple guy who loves to spend time at home with my family.”

Niessen purchased the winning ticket on PlayNow.com.
