A woman is facing charges after being arrested in a stolen vehicle in the Okanagan.

Police said the 31-year-old was found in a suspicious vehicle, which was idling in a parking lot on Smith Drive at about 3:50 am on Saturday morning in Armstrong.

The officer checked the licence plate and learned the vehicle had been stolen from another jurisdiction the previous day.

The woman, who is from Kamloops, was then arrested on suspicion of possessing stolen property.

Police said they also found an illegal handgun and ammo in the vehicle.

“Conducting traffic stops with a stolen vehicle is high-risk for our police officers,” said Cpl. Tania Finn in a media release.

“It is never known what our officers will encounter and it is very fortunate for everyone involved [that] the driver decided to cooperate with police.”

The woman is in custody and faces “numerous criminal charges,” police said.
