A Kamloops man was arrested multiple times after refusing to wear a mask and uttering threats towards the same business.

According to Sgt. Darren Michels, on Saturday at 4 pm, officers were called to a business in the 100 block of Victoria Street after hearing reports that a man was refusing to wear a mask or face covering. The suspect allegedly made threats while leaving the location.

Thankfully, employees inside were able to provide a physical description of the suspect. Officers then conducted patrols to look for the man, though they were unsuccessful.

The next day at noon, officers got another call from the same location. They were told that the man had returned and was outside the business.

Police located and arrested the man. He was later released on conditions, which stated that he would not return to the area, with a future a court date.

On Monday at 3 pm, police received a call from a neighbouring business advising them that the man was across the street from the location again and uttering threats. This time, the man appeared to be having a mental health crisis and was taken to the hospital where he received care.

As of now, the investigation is ongoing and a report is being provided to the Prosecution Service who will consider charges.

Michels went on to explain that the incident wasn't as much about "anti-masking" but more so about the man's mental health.
