One person remains in custody following a public shooting at the Williams Lake Stampede grounds Sunday afternoon.

The RCMP say the incident happened shortly after 3:30 pm on the final day of the four-day Williams Lake Stampede.

Two people suffering from “unspecified injuries” were taken to the hospital.

At this stage of the investigation, police believe that the incident was targeted and there is no further risk to the public.

In a post to Facebook, stampede president Court Smith says those in attendance were safely evacuated.

"Our announcer did a fantastic job of having people exit the facility," said Smith.

No additional information has been made available by the Williams Lake RCMP at this time.

If anyone has any information or any video of the incident and has yet to speak to the police, contact the Williams Lake RCMP at (250) 392-6211.
