One year later, Kamloops man’s homicide remains a mystery

It’s been a full year since Mark Hoffman and his dog were found dead south of Kamloops.

The RCMP is using the solemn anniversary as an opportunity to put the homicide case back in the public eye in hopes of advancing the investigation.

Hoffman was last seen around 5:30 pm on Dec. 15, 2023, making a purchase at Jimmy’s Liquor Store on Paul Lake Road in Kamloops.

His body, as well as his dog’s body, were discovered the following day at the Inks Lake Road recreation site off Hwy 5, south of Kamloops.

The RCMP has released new surveillance images from Hoffman’s visit to Jimmy’s Liquor Store.

“This remains an open and active investigation,” explained Staff Sgt. Jason Smart. 

“We’re urging anyone who had contact with Mark Hoffman, saw his vehicle or has any information that may help solve this crime, to contact us.”

A release from the RCMP noted that “even the smallest detail could be critical” in piecing together what happened to Hoffman and his pet.

It added that previously released photos of Hoffman, his dog and his Ford Explorer, which the two bodies were found close to, remain crucial in identifying potential witnesses.

“The RCMP remains committed to seeking justice for Mark Hoffman and his family, and thanks the public for their continued support in this investigation,” the RCMP release said.
