Just in time for the warm weather, talks of a new Kelowna RV park are on the table. During Monday's council meeting, the City Manager put forth a proposal asking council to consider the establishment of a recreational vehicle campsite on the chunk of land located at 1085 Lexington Drive.

Adjacent to the Mission Recreation Park and next door to several outdoor amenities including a baseball diamond and golf course, the proposed RV park would be in a prime location. In addition, the RV park is naturally separated from the Kelowna's surrounding subdivision, meaning that neighbours wouldn't be disturbed by Kelowna camp goers.

The proposed tourism camping area would consist of approximately 37 full service RV lots that will allow for hook-ups for waste, water, and electrical servicing.

The area will have one-way lanes to allow for ease of back-in and pull through camp sites. Each site will provide a picnic table area with landscaping between campsites.

Kelowna Council was in full support of the idea and happy to see that the huge demand for camping space in our community is being met.

Councillor Luke Stack said he was behind the proposed park idea and is happy to see such a creative use of the land unfold: “so much is going in it's favour,” added Stack.

The community will benefit from a local RV park, mentioned Councillor Ryan Donn.

“We lack these kind of amenities,” added Mayor Colin Basran. The RV park would be great for tourism and economically beneficial for the community.

Despite the overwhelming show of support for the RV park, there were some concerns regarding lengthy park stays.

However, the City Manager confirmed that stipulations surrounding camp goers and their RVs will be in place to ensure prolonged visitation does not become an issue. A tentative camping time frame from April 1st until October 30th has been discussed for the proposed RV park.
