A Kelowna artist now has an audience that spreads across the country thanks to her Canada Post stamp design.
Laurie Koss was asked to create two pansy paintings for the 2015 flower stamp series and on Monday, the stamps were officially released for circulation across Canada. Canada Post had a stamp unveiling event in Hambleton Galleries in Kelowna on Monday, celebrating Koss's success and showcasing her new design.

The annual flower series usually takes a photographic approach, but Koss's design has more of a romantic, illustrated look. Canada Post says that this design makes the stamps even more appealing to brides, who they say eagerly anticipate the release of the flower series each year.
“While our stamps help tell the important stories of Canada, they can also help Canadians tell stories that are important to them – whether that’s a celebration of spring, news of a wedding or the anticipation of a garden blooming with pansies,” says Jim Phillips, Director of Stamp Services at Canada Post.

Canada Post praises Koss's artwork, calling them “a more intense and intimate study of natural form, light, and movement of the flower.” She created two pieces, one of the requested purple “Midnight Glow” Icicle Pansy” and the other the true blue “Delta Premium Pure Light Blue” for its unique shade. “True blue flowers in gardens are rare, and I just liked the fact that there was a pansy that was that true blue,” said Koss. I wanted two pansies that were as different as possible to create a definite contrast. And that was achieved.”
You can check out the stamps at the post office, and a booklet of 10 stamps costs $8.50.
