Citizen Apprehends Hit and Run Suspect in Kelowna

A local citizen apprehended a suspect who was allegedly involved in a hit and run on Thursday. 

A 26-year-old Prince George man is facing a number of potential charges after multiple vehicles were struck, sending two people to hospital Thursday afternoon. One brave citizen followed the suspect and eventually apprehended him and held him until police attended the scene.  

At approximately 1:06 p.m., the Kelowna RCMP responded to a report of a three-vehicle crash at Highway 97 and Cooper Road. Following the crash, the driver fled the scene.

A witness then followed the vehicle towards the Hunter Court area where the suspect allegedly drove onto a grassy area, causing damage.

The suspect continued to Leckie Road at Enterprise where he struck a minivan, pushing the van into an SUV.

After hitting the van, the suspect exited the vehicle and ran off.

The witness who followed the vehicle began to chase the suspect. Eventually he caught the man and waited for the police to arrive.

The occupants of the minivan were transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The occupants of the SUV were treated and released on scene.

The citizen who reported the emergency, followed the suspect, and eventually apprehended him, did not sustain any injuries.
