Situation Unfolding at Orchard Park Mall

UPDATE (2:45pm): Kelowna RCMP have confirmed that a suspicious package was located at the Orchard Park Shopping Centre Wednesday afternoon. The entire mall has been evacuated and is expected to be closed for the remainder of the day. Police are asking people to stay away from the mall and the RCMP Explosive Disposal Unit is on its way from Vancouver to deal with the package.

KelownaNow has learned that firefighters were called to the mall around 2:20 p.m. after someone noticed the suspicious package in the ladies wear section of the Sears department store. A strange odour was detected and the store promptly evacuated.

A situation is unfolding at the Orchard Park Shopping Centre in Kelowna at the Sears location and the entire mall has been closed.

According to calls into the KelownaNow newsroom there are several police cars, ambulances, and fire trucks at the Sears location. No one is allowed in the store and the doors are being guarded by mall security. We have a reporter heading to the scene and will have details as soon as they become available.
