A group of Girl Guides won’t be out selling cookies on Saturday. Rather, they’ll be placed under arrest and sent to face a judge at the Kelowna Law Courts.

In light of Law Day on Saturday, April 25th, the Kelowna Bar Association is encouraging the community to come out and learn a thing or two about having a career in the Canadian legal system.

The theme of the day is “so you want to be a…?” and to make things a little more interesting, 70 Girl Guides will be placed under arrest and undergo a mock trial by judge and jury in order to earn their freedom.

The arrest and trial proceedings will also serve as a way to expose the public to the legal process and create greater awareness about our legal system.

For those individuals interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement, this event is the perfect chance to get some added information. RCMP officers, ambulance attendants, firefighters, court clerks, registry staff, lawyers, and judges will all be on hand to answer questions about their careers.

Courthouse tours will also be available and local community agencies will be on hand to provide information about their organizations.

The event will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Kelowna Law Courts, 1355 Water Street, on Saturday. The event is family friendly and open to all ages.

There will also be a community BBQ from 11:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.
