Bird Design-Build Construction Inc. will be tasked with the design and construction of the new 100,000 square foot building at the corner of Clement Avenue and Richter Street. The total project budget is $48 million for the centralized facility to accommodate enhanced operations, install necessary policing technologies, and meet future expansion as the city grows.

“A Design-Build selection process was used on this project in order to address the extensive and detailed requirements for this high-security facility in a way that ensured a strong control over project costs,” said project manager Andrew Gibbs. “Technical input by specialist consultants and contractors, including extensive consultation with the RCMP, has contributed to the quality of this selection process and will result in a facility that will serve the detachment and the community very well for many years to come.”

The Police Services Building Project borrowing is included in this year’s budget, with more than one-half of the 2015 tax demand allocated to protective services costs. Repayment of the $42-million municipal loan will occur over the next 30 years and be part of future budgets.
