A 21-year-old woman from Kelowna was killed as a result of a tragic car accident on Friday night.

The crash occurred at about 10:15 p.m. on Friday, May 22nd. Witnesses say that a blue Honda coupe was exceeding the speed limit when it lost control going around the curve of McCurdy Road east near Morrison Road. The Honda then struck a green Toyota sedan head on in the eastbound lane and knocked it off the road.

Emergency crews on the scene found the 27-year-old male driver of the Honda with non-life-threatening injuries to his back and neck. The injuries of the young female Toyota driver, however, proved to be fatal and she died at the scene.

Both drivers were the only occupants of their vehicles, as well as Kelowna area residents.

Police say that impaired driving is not believed to be a factor, but the investigation continues. A Traffic Reconstructionist went to the scene and RCMP say more will be known following the conclusion of his investigation.

The name of the 21-year-old woman is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
