B.C. was smoking hot on Saturday, with 34 temperature records broken across the province.
Environment Canada released the unofficial temperature records for Saturday, June 27th, and the results are pretty astounding. A whopping 34 communities broke their previous records for the day, some of which went all the way back to the 1890s.

If you were sweating on Saturday, it’s no wonder. Kelowna got to a very toasty 38.1°C, beating the previous record of 37.5°C set in 2006. If you were in Osoyoos, however, the temperatures were even more extreme with a high of 40.4°C compared to the 36.9°C that was set in 2006. It seems that June 27, 2006 really was a hot year for the Okanagan-Similkameen region, since Princeton also broke its record set in that year, getting up to 38.4°C to beat 34.8°C.
Some areas in B.C. broke some much older records, however. Agassiz had a high of 33.7°C, beating a record set in 1895 of 32.8°C. Pitt Meadows broke another 1895 record, getting up to 33.3°C compared to 32.8°C.
Nanaimo, however, was the winner in breaking the oldest record. This Vancouver Island city experienced gorgeous 33.3°C weather, solidly breaking a high of 31.7°C set all the way back in 1892.
Get ready for more sunshine on Sunday, as Kelowna is set to get to 38°C yet again with a mix of sun and cloud—though there is a risk of a thunderstorm in the afternoon.
