Resident Charged with Murder of 51-Year-Old Kelowna Man

Kelowna RCMP has identified the man charged in the murder of a 51-year-old man on June 14th, 2015.

Daniel Ruff, aged 62, from Kelowna was taken into custody on June 29th, 2015  by Kelowna Serious Crimes investigators and charged with second degree murder. Ruff is accused of murdering 51-year-old Warren Welters at a home on Bernard Avenue. Ruff appeared in Kelowna Provincial Court on June 30th, 2015 and remains in custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for July 9th, 2015.

The 51-year-old's death was deemed a homicide after police located his body at 941 Bernard Avenue, although the cause of death has not been released. Investigators set up a tips line following the suspicious death to gain tips from the public. According to the lead investigator on the case, Ruff's arrest was the result of both the ongoing investigation and tips received by the public. Police have received a number of tips through the dedicated line and say information still continues to trickle in.

Ruff is known to police and has a previous criminal record dating back to 2008 including fear of injury/damage caused by another person.
