An early morning collision claimed two young lives in Vernon on Sunday.
At about 12:10 a.m. Sunday morning, emergency crews were called to Highway 97 at the 27th Street overpass, about one kilometre north of Vernon. Investigation revealed that a vehicle going south crossed the centre line and hit a vehicle going north.
Two female passengers in the vehicle that crossed the line were deceased at the scene. The young women were 22 years old and 26 years old, and both were from Kelowna.

In the second vehicle, a 32-year-old female and a 26-year-old man were taken to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. Both the passengers were from Armstrong.
Highway 97 was closed for about six hours for the investigation, with DriveBC reporting that the roadway had opened soon after 6 a.m. Sunday morning. Traffic took a detour through Stickle Road.
Both RCMP and BC Coroners Service are now investigating to determine the cause of the crash. The names of the two Kelowna women are not being given out at this time to allow their families to be notified.
