Kelowna Women Killed in Crash Identified

The names of the two young Kelowna women who died in a crash along Highway 97 over the weekend have been released.

Chantal Bazin, aged 22, and Kayla Cartwright, aged 26, were both killed while travelling southbound on the highway. Bazin was driving when their vehicle slid across the centre line of Highway 97 into the northbound lane. The accident occurred around 11:50 p.m. on July 11th north of Vernon, and the vehicle the women were in collided with another car.

Both women were pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver and passenger of the other vehicle were taken to hospital for treatment. According to the BC Coroners Service, roads were wet at the time and road conditions are being investigated as a possible factor in the incident. The road was closed for about six hours following the crash, with traffic detoured through Stickle Road.
