Moving into the fall season, the Lake Country RCMP will be focusing on combating organized crime, helping vulnerable persons, reducing crime, and increasing traffic safety.
On Tuesday, RCMP presented their upcoming plans to increase safety and decrease crime to the Lake Country council.
When it comes to organized crime, RCMP will be concentrating their efforts on individuals with the highest risk for violence and public safety. Their hope is to increase charge files by five per cent, while decreasing violent crime by five per cent.
For vulnerable people in our community, RCMP will be enhancing their partnerships with organizations that work to help victims of domestic violence and individuals who suffer from mental health issues.
Traffic related crime is on the rise in Lake Country and the total number of collisions has increased by nine to 43. In light of this statistic, RCMP will be cracking down on drunk driving and speeding.
To provide a little perspective, Lake Country RCMP’s last quarter file count was up 12.17 per cent, bringing the total up to 949 from 846. However, the last quarter prisoner count was down 40 per cent, bringing the total from 25 to 15.
The Lake Country RCMP detachment currently consists of one sergeant, two corporals, eight general duty constables, one school resources officer, and two municipal employees.
