The Canada-wide Culture Days initiative will be filling Kelowna and West Kelowna with a dynamic and wide-ranging series of events between Friday, September 25th and Sunday, September 27th.
Culture Days programming across the country will seek to increase Canadians’ engagement in the lives of their communities, and locally it will encompass a traditional Japanese tea ceremony in Kasugai Garden, a slam poetry session at the Okanagan Heritage Museum, and much, much more.
The kickoff is at the Rotary Centre for the Arts on Friday, September 25th, where live entertainment will be complemented by cake, tea, and coffee. The kickoff starts at 4:30 p.m. and everyone is welcome.
Three guided tours of Culture Days, called “Culture Crawls,” will also be starting at the Rotary Centre on Friday and Saturday, September 25th and 26th.
“Here’s an opportunity for Canada to reach its arms across from coast to coast and have a common experience through arts and culture; through understanding what that means to us and how we express it,” said local Culture Days coordinator Rawle James.
“We all have a way of expressing ourselves as a community, and hockey is one way but it’s not the only way. I think sometimes we get stuck in how we view culture, and I’d like to see us embrace the creative side of life in regards of using culture as a means of bringing people together.”
Culture Days is a Canada-wide, volunteer-based movement that seeks to provide the public with access to and increased awareness regarding arts and culture activities. This will be its sixth year running, and there are 125 activities planned for the Kelowna and West Kelowna communities.
