A young Kelowna woman known for being a smiling face behind the counter at the Blenz on Bernard was taken suddenly ill and passed away on Friday.

Lauren Krueger's cousin posted to Facebook on Thursday, September 24th, saying, "My cousin got sick really fast, vomiting, dizziness, etc. and went into ICU yesterday. After exploratory surgery they intubated her and put her on a ventilator. They have no idea what caused the illness."

The young woman was flown to Vancouver immediately, where she was put on dialysis in critical condition even as tests continued to be run in an attempt to discover the cause of her change in health.

Lauren Krueger did not recover, and now Blenz on Bernard is raising money for a yet-to-be-determined charity in her name.
