Kelowna Mayor Colin Basran proclaimed October Community Inclusion Month as the city shows support for diversity and inclusivity.
In front of City Hall, Mayor Basran, Okanagan Coquihalla MP Dan Albas, and Kelowna Lake Country MP Ron Cannan spoke to members from Pathways Abilities Society, Community Living BC, and the general public.
“I want to assure you that this city council is absolutely committed to continuing to make Kelowna an inclusive and accepting community,” stated Basran. “I am so proud to now read this proclamation and present it to Pathways and everyone who is here this morning.”
Pathways Kelowna helps those in the community with developmental disabilities gain greater independence through encouragement, education, and employment.
The proclamation announcement was followed by a human ‘inclusion’ chain along Water Street as members gathered together. The event kicks off a month of activities planned by Pathways including a BBQ at the society on Franklyn Road in Rutland on October 16th. The Dine for Diversabilities fundraiser will take place on October 22nd, and the 2015 Pathways No Limit Texas Holdem Poker Challenge will take place in West Kelowna on October 30th.
