Man Accused in Fatal Kelowna Bus Stabbing to Appear in Court

The man accused of stabbing another man to death on a Kelowna City bus one year ago will make a court appearance on Tuesday.

Tyler Jack Newton, 23, is facing second degree murder charges in the death of 55-year-old Caesar Rosales. Newton was arrested less than 24 hours after Rosales was killed, in what police call a random attack.

The fatal stabbing took place on October 30th, 2014 at a bus stop on Baron Road behind the Dilworth Shopping Centre.

Newton made his first court appearance on November 3rd, 2014 via video link from the jail in Port Coquitlam. He has been in jail since his arrest on October 31st, 2014. A pre-trial conference took place at the end of August and now Newton is scheduled to appear again for a preliminary inquiry.

Rosales was a well-known community member and an employee of KF Aerospace, formally known as Kelowna Flightcraft. The 55-year-old worked at the company for two years as a Business Systems Analyst and was originally from the Philippines.

Rosales was known for his passion for adrenaline sports such as skydiving, bungee jumping, zip lining and more. He leaves behind a son who lives in Greater Vancouver and a brother in the Philippines, as well as numerous friends and family members.
