The Lake Country Art Gallery is welcoming a new employee to the team, after former curator Katie Brennan vacated her post to pursue other opportunities within the arts community.

Announced on Monday, November 2nd, Wanda Lock will serve as the Gallery’s new curator.

“We are extremely grateful for the high quality work Katie did for the Lake Country Art Gallery”, said Sharon McCoubrey, President of the Lake Country Art Gallery Society.  “And now we look forward to the future exhibitions that Wanda will produce, anticipating that she will bring creative and intriguing art shows to the gallery.”

Lock is an active Lake Country resident and practicing artist. After graduating from Emily Carr University of Art and Design, Lock returned to the Okanagan where she remained an energetic member of the arts community throughout the Valley. She now serves on the Public Art Commission and has developed her own art practice along the way.

“I am looking forward to working with artists throughout the Okanagan, and I plan to build on the already impressive reputation that the Lake Country Art Gallery has,” said Lock.

“Wanda has clearly demonstrated her understanding of the leadership role of a Curator.  The ideas Wanda brings with her have the potential to immediately interest and excite the wider community yet each idea also contains deeper levels of curiosity and inquiry that will engage and challenge visitors to consider new and different ways of seeing,” added Petrina McNeil, Manager of the Art Gallery.

Lock will begin her role as curator immediately, with her first exhibition being the upcoming, Under 100 Show, which opens on November 21st.
