Filmmakers in Kelowna have been chosen to share their talent with the world.

Allyson Fournier, Chris Hopper, and Greg Crompton are three of the top 15 finalists from B.C. for STORYHIVE. 30 finalists were selected from British Columbia and Alberta for the Telus’ community-powered funding program.

The 15 finalists were chosen by voting that took place at the beginning of the month. Each project has been funded up to $10,000 to produce their digital 2-10 minute short film.

Fournier has been picked to be the casting director for Umbrageous.

The short submitted by Jesse Pickett follows four children who are born with a set of animalistic attire and personalities. The children are then left to explore the world, while having these new features.

Hopper will be the editor behind the film The Man and the Dog, which is a film developed by Wayne Hoescherl.

The film is a comedy about the impact automation has on people and the fact that even though a dog is a man’s best friend, a dog can only do so much.

The final filmmaker is Crompton, who is producing a film by Jem Garrard. The film Unit Bryan is about a retail worker and her relationship with the first-ever humanoid worker.

One winner will be eventually named for each province, who will then win the Top Award. Voting for the Top Award will take place from February 9th until March 4th online.

The Top Award is a customized career training and mentorship program, a scholarship to the Banff World Media Festival, and distribution on Telus platforms.
