A brand new store will go into the vacant space left by Target in Kelowna and it's set to be the first one in the interior region.

Lee Valley Tools has leased the space in the Orchard Plaza along Springfield, which has sat empty for many months now. V.P. of marketing J.J. Hochrein says the new store will open in the spring of 2016.

"This will be our 17th store to open as we continue to expand," explained Hochrein. "We continue to get a lot requests at our Vancouver and Coquitlam stores as to when we are going to open a store in the interior. It was time to do so."

Lee Valley started out as a woodworking store but has changed over the years to meet customer demand and now sells gardening and home products including hardware.

The retail size of the store will around 15,000 square feet and hiring for the store has already begun. According to Hochrein, the process has begun to find the management team for the new store. Lee Valley stores can be found all across Canada.

The Target Canada store closed in Kelowna on April 2nd, 2015 leaving many residents without work. This announcement of a retail store breeds good news for those looking for a job in the retail industry.

The new Steve Nash Gym will also be located in the space. The large store is expected to be divided into three spaces to make way for several different businesses.
