The University of British Columbia Okanagan campus will be providing education to refugees.
Born Free and EqualAs the year is approaching its end the UBCSUO has some very exciting news for you. We met with a former refugee family in Kelowna this past weekend and had the opportunity to eat with them. Hearing their stories and seeing the pain in their eyes was truly heartbreaking. The refugee family wanted us to showcase how hard they work and how much they love Canada. We surprised this refugee family with our commitment to sponsoring two refugee students to take part in our UBCO education. We are currently working on finalizing the deal with UBCO administration. They were so excited to hear about our initiative and even gave us permission to interview them on film.Please watch the following video so we can showcase these refugees on being kind, caring, and loving people. Being human has never been about doing the easiest things, it’s about doing the right thing.Due to the dire situation in Syria and the middle east, the Muslim Students Association (MSA) at UBCO has undertaken its Syria Relief Drive. The MSA at UBCO aims to collect medical supplies which will be transported to medical camps near the affected areas. Please drop off any medical supplies at the UBCSUO office.

In a video released by the University of British Columbia Student Union Okanagan (UBCSUO), a former refugee family in Kelowna is showcased. The family talks about how they’ve made friends in the Okanagan and how it’s their new home. The focus of the video, other than announcing the commitment to education, was showing that these refugees are kind, caring, and loving people.
The video continued on with Ryan Kaila, Vice President Finance & Operations, Students’ Union of UBC Okanagan saying the university would be providing education for two refugees.
“Your students’ union is working with UBC to financially commit to sponsoring two refugee students to take part in our UBCO Place of Mind.”
Along with the sponsorship the Muslin Student Association (MSA) at the campus has started its Syria Relief Drive. The goal is to gather medical supplies, which will then be sent to medical camps near the affected areas.

The education sponsorship deal is currently being finalized with UBCO administration.
