Put aside the Christmas shopping list for a moment and instead fill your cart, or rather "Stuff A Bus", with food and necessities to assist those in need in our community. The 11th annual "Stuff A Bus" campaign, presented by 99.9 Sun FM, 101.5 EZ Rock and AM 1150 along with BC Transit and Kelowna Regional Transit, aims to help fellow community members put food on the table this holiday season. The campaign started today and goes through to Sunday December 6th.
This weekend, buses will be at Superstore in Kelowna and West Kelowna on Friday 2-7pm, Saturday 10am-6pm and Sunday 10am-4pm. You're invited to go say hello to the various Sun FM, EZ Rock and AM 1150 announcers who will be onsite all weekend at both drop off locations, and donate to this worthy cause.
Community members are encouraged to come by with non-perishable food items or baby basics such as formula, diapers or clothes to help "Stuff A Bus"! The Kelowna and West Kelowna Food Banks have provided “wish lists” of items that are top priority for this year’s holiday hampers, which will be handed out at Superstore by volunteers.
“For over 10 years we have asked our communities in Kelowna and West Kelowna to give us a hand stocking the shelves of our respective food banks at Christmas time," said Group Program Director Mark Burley. "Every year, the response has grown and we manage to help more people in need. We are proud to help those in need with the assistance of our neighbours, and look forward to doing so again this year.”
Last year, with the help of our community, we collected almost $9,000 in cash ($27,000 with the Food Banks’ buying power!) and 27,500 pounds of food, toys, and other non-food items for those in dire need – up 6,000 pounds from the year before. More than a third of food bank recipients are children under the age of 16. Nearly another third are low-income wage earners, while others are on disability, social assistance, and fixed incomes."
