The big day is fast approaching, and Kelowna Santas is continuing to ask the community for their support in creating a memorable Christmas for families in need. Participating drop off locations are grateful to have received plenty of toys for young children so far, but are still in need of new, unwrapped gifts for older children.
Teenagers of families in need are often overlooked at this time of year, assumed to be mature enough to understand that Santa cannot drop off gifts for them. Kelowna Santas believes that these teenagers still deserve to be treated to a special gift on Christmas morning, and that is why it is important to the group to provide for children up to 17 years of age.
Buying for a teen is an extremely tough task - who knows what they love or hate this week - so here are some ideas to get the ball rolling.
- Sports Equipment: Ball gloves, softballs, golf balls, tennis balls, soccer balls, and basketballs.
- Books: Popular books for teens right now include The Hunger Games series, The Maze Runner series, Paper Towns, and P.S. I Still Love You.
- Art Supplies: Paints, paintbrushes, canvases, pencil crayons, sketchbooks, adult colouring books.
If all else fails, gift cards or gift certificates never will. Gift certificates to the movie theatre or to a hockey game make great gifts, as well as gift cards for malls and shops.
Kelowna Santas is still looking for volunteers to help wrap gifts at the Wrap Party at Orchard Ford on December 21st, and to deliver gifts to families in need on December 23rd and 24th. Go to kelownasantas.com to register as a volunteer.
Kelowna Santas is proudly sponsored by KelownaNow, Sun Fm, EZ Rock, & AM1150, Kelowna Captial News, Orchard Ford, and Diamond Delivery.
