Four vehicles were involved in a downtown Kelowna crash on Thursday.
Around 11:00 a.m., a white Toyota Rav4 was driving northbound at the intersection of Lawrence Avenue and Ellis Street when it hit a grey Hyundai Sonata from behind.
Cst. Jess O’Donaghey, with the Kelowna RCMP said the driver of the Hyundai failed to signal when she quickly decided to turn left at the intersection. The Driver of the Toyota then pressed on their gas instead of the brakes, causing a chain reaction.
The Hyundai drove through the intersection, across a crosswalk, over a cement barrier, and eventually rolled on its side.
The 69-year-old driver was stuck inside her rolled over car and was assisted by emergency crews to escape.
“Police interviewed several witnesses at the scene,” said O’Donaghey.
“Thankfully no pedestrians were involved in this collision, which occurred at a regularly busy downtown intersection. Police would like to remind motorists to look ahead, plan your turns in advance and always use your signals,” added O’Donaghey.
The older woman sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene by paramedics.
Charges are not being recommended at this time.
