An organization in Kelowna has been approved to grow medical marijuana.

THC Biomed Ltd. received its license to cultivate pot for medical purposes on February 18th. On the Health Canada website it says these licenses are issued by Health Canada under the Marijuana for Medical Purposes Regulations (MMPR). Only producers who are allowed to produce and sell marijuana, can sell fresh/dry marijuana and cannabis oil.

Currently in Canada there are seven approved organizations in British Columbia, one in Alberta, two in Saskatchewan, one in Manitoba, 16 in Ontario, one in Quebec, and one in New Brunswick.

At this time the Kelowna firm is only allowed to grow the weed.

In August THC Biomed Ltd, previously known as THC Medical Systems Ltd, was approved for a pre-licence.

John Miller, president and CEO said they planned to meet all the requirements to become approved, which has now happened.

“I am very encouraged and pleased with the transparency adopted by the MMPR regulatory body. We believe it is important to shareholders to have some sort of verification of the statements being made by applicants, regarding the progress of an application under the MMPR. As always, we will continue to aspire to meet all the present and future requirements mandated under the MMPR and we remain optimistic that our application to become Licensed Producers, will be approved in the near future."

At this time THC BioMed Ltd. can conduct research and development with the weed, but they’re still waiting for the approval for producing cannabis oil.

“As an investor and Director of THC BioMed Intl. Ltd. I want to thank the staff for reaching this important milestone. We have a unique approach to this business as evidenced by our focus on research and development as well as our agreement to acquire Supra; a Health Canada licensed Cannabis Testing Laboratory.” commented George Smitherman.

THC plans to be in the forefront of this industry and hopes that their high standards when it comes to researched, new products, and serve development will help the organization grow.
