Expecting moms and new moms have made the move to the new maternity unit at KGH.

On March 6th the final floor of the Interior Heart and Surgical Centre (IHSC) opened in Kelowna. With the opening it meant moving all the patients from the old unit to the new one.

Moving the 11 moms and 12 babies took about two hours. Just hours after the move, six more babies were born in the new unit.

There are five private labour and delivery rooms, nine private and four semi-private postpartum rooms. There is also a brand new neonatal intensive care unit, which will support up to 20 babies.

The maternity unit is part of the $381 million budget that was given for the IHSC.

The first three floors of the IHSC opened in October.
