Some West Kelowna care home residents are feeling a little warmer and snugger than usual.
Baptist Housing Residents from Village at Smith Creek are settling in with their new blanket warmer.
Usually this type of equipment is only available in larger healthcare centres but workers pushed for something they felt the residents would hugely benefit from.
“We feel that being able to provide the comfort of a warm blanket, much like a warm hug, is a wonderful way to meet the needs of our residents, many who have complex medical issues,” said Lisa Burton, Care Facilitator Village at Smith Creek. “In times of anxiety, restlessness, insomnia, chronic pain and palliative care, a warm blanket goes a long way in providing comfort to those that need it most.”
Their fundraising effort was supported by community and family members who recognized the comfort a blanket warmer could provide. Over the past year, there have been bake sales, garage sales, plant sales and more to raise funds for this very expensive piece of equipment.
When things were looking tough, Orchard Ford stepped in and donated the money needed to purchase the blanket warmer.
