The 41st annual Kelowna Civic Community Awards Mayor Reception was held at the Coast Capri Hotel over the weekend and it was filled with fun and excitement.

The Mayors Reception is held two weeks before the awards gala in order to honour the men and women within Kelowna for their contributions to the community.

The afternoon started with opening remarks from councilor Maxine Dehart, she explained the history behind the Mayors reception as well as why it is important to acknowledge not only the award winners but the nominees.

"Why should they not be recognized, it is very hard to choose the recipient and we are just ecstatic that we can give them another prestigious event to attend."

Mayor Colin Basran took to the podium to present the nominees with their commemorative plaques. With 12 categories ranging from Arts Awards to Man and Woman of the Year, there were many incredible members of the community that were recognized.

The afternoon was a great way to make the finalists feel appreciation from the community and all that they do.

The Awards Gala will be held on April 27 at the Kelowna Community Theatre. For more information you can visit our KelownaNow events calendar.
